The 2.7-1 offshore workshop is designed to use on oil rig for drilling equipment installation and maintenance. This workshop is converted from 20ft shipping container and comply with DNVGL-ST-E271 standard. The DNVGL-ST-E271 standard is common applied standard for offshore containers, container-like units. This standard has set some minimum criteria for material, production, design and testing for containers that are to be used in offshore environments. International standards, codes and regulations considered relevant have been taken into account when preparing this standard for certification. The most important of these are IMO’s circular MSC/Circ.860 and EN 12079. The European Committee for Standardization, CEN, issued a European standard for offshore containers, EN 12079, and a revised edition, split into three parts, was issued in 2006. The requirements for design, testing and production of offshore containers in EN 12079 are directly based on DNV Standard for certification 2.7-1.

Containers that are intended for sea transport on container ships are normally designed according to an applicable part of ISO 1496. Containers that are certified to CSC (International Convention for Safe Containers) are in general also designed as ISO containers.

Offshore containers designed and certified according to this standard can also be designed and certified according to CSC and ISO 1496.

Therefore, shipping container cannot be used as offshore container. DNV Containers are usually with supplied certified lifting set included slings and shackles, which is the most critical component to safety in transporting the container from the vessel to the offshore platform. The lifting set is designed for single point lift by crane.

The DNV standard has set minimum criteria for design and testing of container, and the workshop required equip a 1T trolley to handle heavy equipment in and out, a set of beam frame add and integrated with the container structure to solved the issue of shipping container structural strength not enough strong.
